In Jesus’ Name
We have had so much to be thankful for this last month. New friends, old friends, fulfilling work, and a greater sense of direction. Also, our kids have been healthy for two weeks! Yay!
Emmanuel is continuing to serve patients in the minor procedure room and is frequently joined by medical and/or nursing students. It’s a very busy room, and he is frequently staying later than planned to take care of everyone.
I (Rachel) was asked to join the newly formed hospital Resuscitation Committee. We had a meeting earlier this week, and it was so encouraging to see that we had each independently identified similar areas of opportunity related to our resuscitation efforts. I’m excited to work in partnership with the rest of the committee on training staff and increasing the hospital’s capacity to care for more critical patients.
We are also excited to share that recently we have been thankful to see the renewal of a ministry here called “Spiritual Rounds”. In the past, this has been a time for volunteers and local students to go down to the hospital together on Sunday afternoons and pray with patients; the ministry dissolved when the surgeon leading the group was no longer here. But now, we have over ten Kibogora Polytechnic students joining us on Sunday afternoons, along with other volunteers, as we go down to worship and pray with patients. We are praying this ministry can continue with consistency and that it will be a blessing to patients and their families, as well as the students. Already we have been given donations that have allowed us to buy Bibles for the patients we pray with who don’t already have one in their home, and we hadn’t even yet asked for money for this need. We’re humbled to get to deliver these gifts to patients and their families.
A couple of weeks ago, I (Rachel) was caring for a young girl recovering after a surgery she had to have because of an infected bone in her leg. She was still coming out of anesthesia and had been medicated for pain, but as she woke up more, she would cry out. When she began to cry, I went over to her bed and placed my hand on her head and made a soothing shushing sound. She stopped, so I stopped. As I walked away, she began to cry again. I went back and put my hand on her head again, and she calmed and slept. Another nurse brought me over a stool to sit on, and she said, “She needs your care.” As I sat on that stool with my hand on that young girl’s head, I looked around the ward, and a simple, small prayer came to mind, “In Jesus’ name.”
We thank you so much for continuing to be part of God’s good work here in Kibogora with us through prayer and financial gifts as we strive to care for people physically and spiritually in Jesus’ name.
In Christ,
Rachel & Emmanuel Nzungize
Please pray for…
Both of us to continue to be encouraged in our work
Staff training and improvements related to resuscitation to be successful
The comfort and health of our kids, Noella and Matayo
Peace for all four of us as we are away from family in America and have been finding that especially hard this week
